Gohar Tappeh is an ancient hill located in Mazandaran province between the historical city of Behshahr and two kilometers northwest of Rostam Kola. Features of Gohar Tappeh
The location of this area between valleys and ancient caves such as Hoto, Kamarband, and Kumishan creates the suspicion that humans who lived in the ancient caves of Mazandaran after leaving these caves created the ancient city of Gohar Tappeh. This historical site has a stepped shape that each floor is a sign of a historical period whose oldest layer is related to the Neolithic period. The excavations show that this hill was man-made and over time, the inhabitants of this area have gone to the next places with the disappearance of the previous places. After the destruction of this area, its inhabitants migrated to the mountains, but they carried the bodies of their ancestors to Gohar Tappeh for burial. For this reason, many remains of ancient bodies have been discovered in this area. The discovery of animal, wheat, and barley skeletons along with the skeletons obtained also suggests that they believed that corpses would be resurrected and would need food.
Archaeologists believe that the formation of the central Achaemenid government in the late Iron Age in Iran and the concentration of power and civilization in the Fars region is one of the reasons for the disappearance of civilization in this region.
Among the artifacts found in Gohar Tappeh, we can find all kinds of pottery, bronze objects, seals, decorative objects, and architectural structures, as well as weapons, tools including bayonets, daggers, as well as decorative objects including pendants, pottery statues of animals such as cows, horses, turtles, birds, necklaces and bracelets, have a history of several thousand years. These valuable objects and remains represent a gradual and step-by-step change in the way of life of humans of the Bronze and Stone Ages.
